About the Athena Protocol

Athena protocol acts as marketplace for blockchain cover. It allows users to protect their assets from hacks, depegs and other security risks while liquidity providers can offer protection in exchange for rewards.

The pools allow users seeking protection and users seeking yield to automatically settle coverage contracts. In case of a claim, covered users are refunded by the pool. All interactions are permissionless & non-custodial through the use of smart contracts.

Athena benefits for high capital efficiency through the use of leverage. This allows liquidity provider to earn more rewards while cover buyers get better rates. By using a fully on-chain AMM & arbitration system, Athena is also better aligned with the interests of its users.

ATEN is an ERC-20 used for governance, staking, and accessing additional LP rewards within the Athena protocol. It is designed to accrued value using buy-back and burn. Both protocol activity & security incidents contribute to creating continuous buy pressure for ATEN.

At any given moment, a covered user has the ability to open a claim for a payout from the pool. Claims are handled optimistically, anyone can review the protection agreement and decide if the claim should be challenged or not. Challenged claims are send to Kleros for arbitration.

Liquidity providers can earn 4 cumulative rewards:

- Strategy rewards from where their liquidity is invested (lending, LST, etc.)
- Premiums from every pool they provide liquidity to
- Extra rewards from liquidity farming campaigns
- Bonus premiums APR for long term commitment to the DAO governance

When providing liquidity to Athena your are providing cover in exchange for premiums. In case the protocol you protect suffers a security incident, you may incur loss of capital. Before interacting with Athena, users should conduct their own research and only participate if they unequivocally agree with the Terms and Conditions of the Athena protocol.
